Research also indicates that marriages which take place during times of annual leaves are more stable than those that occur during times when workers are not on annual leave. A study was conducted by Cornell University which found that a working mother who took annual leave and spent some time with her family had more psychological benefits than her counterpart who remained at home.

Most people are able to take time off because of a valid reason. One common reason for taking time off from work is illness. Employees suffering from serious illnesses such as cancer or leukemia must wait a minimum of six months before they are eligible to take time off. Some companies also choose to allow vacation days off for employees suffering from illness resulting from exposure to harmful chemicals. Employees are not eligible to take time off for a family vacation if their illness is covered under an employee health insurance policy.

If an employee is unable to take time away from work for any reason, his or her entitlement to paid time off begins to accrue. The number of paid time off days that an employee has is based on his or her tenure and job description. Sometimes, employees must wait a period of time before their earned time off begins to accrue. Other times, however, vacation days and paid time off for illness are automatic.

Most companies offer vacation pay to workers in exchange for reduced hours or unpaid vacation time. Incentive pay may be included in a worker’s paycheck or may be paid directly from the company after a specified number of referrals or sales. If an employee earns high commissions or if the company has a high overhead, the employees earning less pay may actually receive less vacation pay than those who earn higher commissions.
